DIY Kids Stained Glass Fun with Paint!

My kids LOVE this project! We do this a lot during holiday times..we call it our "stained glass" art!

It kept them entertained for over 1/2 hour this time and it was SO easy to do!  We use finger paint so that it washes right up easily if it gets on their hands, the floors, the cabinets, etc.  Here's what you'll need to get your own stained glass art!

  • One paper plate per child and one container for water each (we used yogurt cups)
  • Various colored finger paints
  • Paint brushes (fingers will work, too, if you want to be very daring!)
  • AND a child or children that need to be occupied! :)

I also set a few paper towels under the water containers for them to rinse their brushes and dab them off.  As you can see from the pictures below, the paint is quite transparent, so you don't want to have a lot of water on the brushes when you paint.

This really is a fun project for them...painting part of the house, come on! What kid wouldn't want to do that without getting into trouble!

I wish the snow hadn't brightened up the photos so much...the artwork was really cute!  We leave it on for days to weeks and it is still easy to wipe clean...we use vinegar to wash it!

Do you have a great kids idea for those times when they are "bored"? Let me know!
